The side effects of clenbuterol are well-known to long time users and bodybuilders, but if you’re new to this, the following information will prove useful.
Before we go to the clen cycle and other facts, a quick overview is in order. Clen is used to burn fats and preserve muscles during bodybuilding.
It was originally developed to increase animals’ lean mass and spur their growth, but bodybuilders eventually learned of its muscle enhancing capabilities.
Clenbuterol Short Term Side Effects
Clenbutarol effects are plentiful but we can divide them into two groups: long and short term.
While the short term effects vary, the cause is almost always due to overdose. Please note all the side effects listed here are for clen only.
If you’re stacking clen with other steroids, it could have effect on clen and make the side effects worse or milder.
- Sweating: this is one of the more common side effects and usually occurs at night, but it can happen during the day as well.
- Difficulty breathing: while it sounds alarming, this doesn’t last long as it’s just your body getting used to the compound.
- Headaches: this is often reported too, but since headaches can have any number of causes, it’s difficult to pin the blame on clen.
- Nervousness: nervousness, shaking and feeling the jitters are among the most common side effects. Almost everyone who uses clen will feel these, but the severity varies per individual. The effect is most pronounced during the first week or two of a cycle but dissipates after that. If you’re shaking too much, reduce the dose.
- Anxiety: anxiety is a byproduct of the situation above. If your body is always shaking, it tends to cause stress and irritation.
- Shaking: same as nervousness.
- Vomiting: this is a rare short term side effect and usually happens due to an overdose. It can also occur if the medication you’re taking is incompatible with clen.
- Dry mouth: this is a common side effect but usually wears off after a while.
- Insomnia: sleeplessness is most often felt when during the first week of a cycle, but the body is usually able to adjust in a few days.

Other common short term side effects are heart rate palpitations, high blood pressure and muscle cramps.
While these side effects are numerous, they are for short term. Not everyone who uses clen suffers from side effects though: some of them don’t feel anything at all.
Of all the side effects listed here, the most common and irritating for some is the jitters and there are few things more annoying than having your hands shake all the time.
Other people refer to this sensation as feeling “wired” and just uncomfortable.

Clenbuterol Long Term Side Effects
Is clenbuterol safe? It isn’t as dangerous as other steroids, but that doesn’t mean there are no long term consequences if you overdose.
The long term side effects are not yet well-known, but we can get some ideas based on animal studies.
One of the effects of clen is over the long term it expands the size of heart muscle cells. This increase is due to an increase in collagen.
Collagen is the substance that limits your heart’s ability to pump blood, cutting back its output.
Too much collagen also affects the electric signals your heart muscle cells receive, and this affects the way it pumps. In the long term this could produce an irregular heart beat or arrhythmias.
Clenbuterol side effects on hair loss is one of the most well-known effects of clen, but far more dangerous is your increased vulnerability to a stroke.
Several studies involving rats have also shown that too much clen can lead to heart cell deterioration.
Other possible long term side effects could affect your heart’s structural integrity and lead to aortic enlargement following exercise. This in turn makes you more vulnerable to aortic rupture.
The side effect of clen will be more pronounced and felt if you have an existing heart condition.
This should not be a surprise as one of the side effects of this steroid is hypertension. If too much clen is taken, there is also the possibility you could suffer a left-sided cardiac atrophy.
Another possible long term negative effect is bone fragility. If you overdose on clen there is strong possibility your bone’s microarchitecture could suffer damage.
While it’s true that clen can preserve your muscle mass, you won’t benefit much from it if your bones are fragile.

As has been pointed out, a lot of the side effects both short and long term are triggered by overdosing.
However there are a lot more possible effects from overdosing, and the symptoms can manifest early and last for hours owing to its long half-life.
Aside from those already mentioned, overdosing on clen can produce a wide range of conditions including:
- Taurine depletion
- Tachicardia (your heart rate beats at a very fast rate, i.e. 200 beats per minute)
How to Avoid the Side Effects of Clenbuterol
Solid and liquid clenbuterol side effects are similar, and the way you avoid them is the same too.
The single most effective way of preventing the side effects is not to overdose.
For men the maximum dosage is 140 mcg per day and for women 100 mcg. Some women can take up to 140 mcg but often that’s unnecessary and could produce unpleasant side effects.
To keep things simple, men should not take more than 140 mcg and women 100 mcg max…
…anything higher than those and you’ll be putting yourself at risk of developing cardiac hypertrophy, wherein your ventricles are enlarged, putting your heart under heavy stress.
If you go further and take 200 mcg, you will be in even greater danger.
The other side effect we mentioned earlier was insomnia, and it’s something you should expect when using this compound as it has a stimulating effect.
As pointed out earlier, the sleeplessness wears off after a while. If it doesn’t work even when you reduce the dosage, take clen early in the day so it doesn’t keep you up at night.

- Take clen for two weeks straight and then stay off it for two weeks
- During the first two weeks, start with a low dose (i.e. 20 mcg)
- When your two week break is done, resume taking clen, increasing the dose by 20 mcg so you will now take 40 mcg for the next two weeks
- Keep increasing the dosage until you reach the maximum (140 mcg for men, 100 mcg for women)
When the time comes you want to end the cycle, do the reverse: reduce the dose by 20 mcg every two weeks until you can drop it altogether.
You don’t want to suddenly quit, but if this method is taking too long, just drop your dosage to 40 mcg and take it for a couple of weeks, and then you can stop.
This two week on / off method is popular with a lot of men and women, and with good reason as it works.
However you can use clen in other ways, and if you’re a long time steroid user, you can probably jump to the 140 mcg or 100 mcg dosage right away.
And please keep in mind the dosage can be adjusted if you’re stacking it with other steroids.
